I'm slowly but surely moving towards a state of existence I think I'm going to enjoy very much.

How is everyone else doing? I doubt I'll get an answer.

I'm driving better than I used to, my photography has improved, blah-di-blah.

Something I could never get the hang of is driving like my friends do at autocross. I have my style. I focus. I drive as hard as the car wants me to drive. I think it's a testament to my driving ability to have a car most people call "scary at the limit" like my Z06 at the limit through a number of corners.

I've only spun the car once, and that was in a dry->wet transition.

God, I love driving though. Being out there and just going as fast as you and the car will let you, for all those seconds, not a thought in your head!! it's amazing.

From one of those "you go girl!" chain letter jokes:

A man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment. Suddenly, the man realized that the next day he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00AM for an early morning business flight.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and LOSE), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00 AM." He left it where he knew she would find it. The next morning, the man woke up, only to discover it was 9:00 AM and he had missed his flight. Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't wakened him, when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. The paper said, "It is 5:00 AM. Wake up."

Men are not equipped for these kinds of contests. God may have created man before woman, but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece.

Wow, score one for women, but I sat back and thought about it for a little while, and realized the woman who wrote this little joke neglected to mention what happened after:

Then the man lost his job and the bitter wife couldn't bilk him out of any more money, they ended up getting divorced and she got half of nothing.

He found a new job, built himself back up, and got a better, younger wife.

She went on welfare, gained 200 lbs and died in her mid 50's, alone and covered in grease.

Potato chip grease, for those missing the connective.

Seriously though. So the guy asks his wife to wake him up at 5 AM. She DOESN'T. Any guy who wants to get up early is doing it for something IMPORTANT, it's not like we just do it because we feel like it. Why would women feel so damn smug about the first story? Oh wow, she won the argument, she may have cost the guy his life and job. What the hell are you so proud of? Retarded.

The Line Has Been Drawn

I think the hardest part of any race is figuring out the line. Mastering over and understeer through a corner is easy. It'll take you, at most, 20 minutes of continuous hard driving to get a decent feel for the car once you're experienced. Obviously this isn't mastery, but it's good enough to have a good time.

After that, you need to learn the line. The "ultimate" line is different for every car and every driver, although it doesn't deviate too far from an ideal line. On this line, you have gone through corner A in such a manner to maximize your speed through it while still setting yourself up for corner B.

I have always had difficulty finding the line in autocross. I drive too frantically and forget about the most important part - the line.

Just like life. If you get too frantic and concentrate on the moment - you forget about where the ideal line has been drawn. I think I know now. Well, maybe not. Even if I stray from the line at one point, I can always get back on it and catch up.
